Hi! My name is Sara!
I got diagnosed with Type 1 when I was just 4 years old. I had to go to the hospital, and my experience wasn't the best there. I was very lucky, though. My blood sugar was only around 450, and since then with the help of my parents, doctor and school nurses it has become very manageable.
The first time I went to camp, I was nervous that people wouldn't like me. Or judge me. But why should they? We all had diabetes!
Camp Nejeda is a really special place for me. I went to 3 family camps with my mom and dad, and spent a week there for the last two summers. I can finally go and be myself, especially without anyone asking when my low alert goes off..., "What's that beeping? It's hurting my ears!"
I have met many friends that I'm sure I'll have for years to come, and I can't wait to be a camper next year again! Someday I hope to be a counselor too!
